Games of the XXV Olympiad is the official name given to the 1992 Summer Olympic Games that were held in Barcelona. It is needless to say that Barcelona occupies a pedestal spot in the sporting world due to the infrastructure constructed in preparation of the event. Below are some of these important sites.

A. Anella Olympica

Anella Olympica, also Olympic Park or Olympic Ring was the main site for the 1992 Summer Olympics. It is located in Mointjuic in Barcelona. Among the facilities to be found in this ring includes:

i. Olympic Stadium, or Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys - This was used for opening/closing ceremonies as well as athletics.

ii. The Palau Sant Jordi sports hall - this was used for gymnastics (artistics), volleyball (final), and handball (final)

iii. The telecommunications tower designed by Santiago Calatrava - This was used to broadcast the games worldwide.

iv. The National Physical Education Institute (INEFC) - This was used during the games for wrestling.

v. The Picornell swimming pools - This was used for some of the swimming events.
.
vi. The Joan Antoni Samarach Olympic and Sports Museum - The still holds some of the sports paraphernalia used during the games.

B. Avinguda Diagonal

This was another important area during the 1992 Summer Olympics. It has:

i. Estadi del FC Barcelona - This is where the football final game was played.

ii. Palau Blaugrana - Games such as judo, roller hockey final, and taekwondo demonstration were competed here.

iii. RCD Espanyol Stadium - Some football games were played in this stadium.

iv. Real Club de Polo de Barcelona - The Olympics’ equestrian (dressage, jumping, eventing final), modern pentathlon (riding) were competed here.

These are some of the places in Barcelona you will need to visit during your Olympic tour. Barcelona is a sporting city and you will be an 'odd one out' if you do not love sports. For the sporting fans however, there is no other place on earth that has as much intensity for sport as Barcelona. Make sure you come along with your kids…who knows, you might spike their interest in sports (and they may be talented).
