Dürnstein is a small town on the Danube River in Austria. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Wachau region and also a well-known wine growing region. The town gained its name from the medieval castle which was called Duerrstein or Dürrstein, nowadays Richard Löwenherz Hotel. Richard the Lionheart is said to have been the first true guest of note here, some 8 centuries ago. The castle is preserved in an almost unchanged state, and sits on the bank of the Danube, namely one of the most pristine river landscapes in Europe.
Medeival convent walls surround the property, which also has a convent garden, sheltered by ivy-covered town walls, the former Gothic convent and the church, perfect for relaxation, and unwinding. The hotel is luxurious, and each room bears that same signature.
This is truly a great place to stay, offering luxury and modern amenities, as well as beautiful surrounding landscapes, and the Danube River in its backyard. The castle is also steeped in rich history, and you will truly feel like a king, sleeping in these medieval luxury accommodations. You can explore the surrounding area, or take part in activities the hotel has to offer.
