Phra Pathom Chedi, Thailand
Believed to be the place where Buddhism was originally introduced in Thailand, Nakhon Pathom is home to the highest and most sacred stupa in the country, namely the Phra Pathom Chedi.
This ancient town’s chedi is known for its gigantism along with the wide array of Buddha images that portray various hand gestures or mudras. Know more about this Thai travel attraction, which lies 35 miles away from Bangkok, in this review provided for us by trusted travel website, called Fodor’s:
Reputed to be Thailand's oldest city (it's thought to date from 150 BC), Nakhon Pathom was once the center of the Dvaravati kingdom, a 6th- to 11th-century affiliation of Mon city-states. It marks the region's first center of Buddhist learning, established about a millennium ago. Today there would be little reason to visit if it weren't for the Buddhist monument Phra Pathom Chedi.
